As part of a music course called Smashing the Idols, I took advantage of an alternative assignment opportunity by creating a fake Twitter feed advertising a concert program of my design. The medium is part of the message in this assignment, which takes on a different form and tone than an academic essay while also trying to engage both scholars and the general public. It also incorporates images and references audio. For example, the fake tweet below on the left calls attention to the audio on the right.

This assignment was an opportunity to engage with digital pedagogy and non-traditional methods for presentation and evaluation. Such an opportunity was especially welcome in a music class, since traditional texts cannot really incorporate music or sound, and the chance to explore alternative ways of exhibiting music aligned with the course’s focus on destabilizing the traditional canon.
